The Dutch prosecutor's office intends to ask the court to sentence Alexey Pertsev, co-founder of the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash, to prison for more than 5 years.

Speaking in court in the Dutch city of 's-Hertogenbosch, prosecutors said that Alexey Pertsev systematically took part in facilitating money laundering through Tornado Cash between July 2019 and August 2022.

Let us recall that Alexey Pertsev was imprisoned in a Dutch prison 2 years ago, after the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash was included in the sanctions list of the US Treasury Department. As a result of the sanctions, the property, user funds and source code of Tornado Cash in the United States and abroad were blocked, and residents and citizens of the country were prohibited from using the service.

In addition to cryptocurrency, the repositories of Tornado Cash and their founders in Github, RPC Infura and Alchemy Platform, and other domains were blocked. The US Treasury Department believes that the mixer was used to launder criminally obtained funds by organized hacker groups, including the well-known Lazarus Group from North Korea.

The announcement of the court verdict in the case of Alexey Pertsev is scheduled for May 14 this year. The co-founder of the cryptomixer denies his guilt in organizing the process of money laundering totaling $1.2 billion.

Earlier, another co-founder of the cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash, Roman Storm, launched a fundraising campaign to cover his legal costs in proceedings with US federal authorities.
