A tornado alert is in force for parts of northern Alabama, east of Kentucky, northern Mississippi and downtown Tennessee until 6am, local time, Thursday (3), according to Storm Prediction Center.
Nearly six million people are impacted by the alert, which includes the Tennessee and Mississippi states. More than 280,000 customers are without energy in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Arkansas, according to Poweroutage.US.
A line of strong storms to severe will move around the warning area at night.
Even though there may be a general tendency of storm weakening, they can still produce tornadoes with locally harmful gusts up to approximately 121 km/he hail up to 4 cm in diameter.
