Toshiba TLP223GA and TLP223J opto relays with low input power and high operating temperature are suitable for smart meters

Toshiba announced the release of TLP223GA and TLP223J integrated opto relays with 400 V and 600 V output contact voltage ratings, respectively. They feature low input power, improved switching performance, and are packaged in DIP4 packages.

The TLP223GA and TLP223J use high output LEDs developed by Toshiba with a maximum actuation current of 2 mA. This is approximately 33% lower than that of currently produced counterparts. In terms of switching speed of 1 ms, TLP223GA is 50% better than its predecessor, and TLP223J with an indicator of 0.5 ms is 75%.

The maximum operating temperature has been increased from 85°C to 110°C, making the new products suitable for use in outdoor equipment, including smart meters. The maximum insulation voltage is 5000 V.

In addition to smart meters, among the areas of application of TLP223GA and TLP223J are security systems (passive infrared presence sensors), industrial equipment (programmable logic controllers, input / output interfaces, various sensors, etc.), building automation systems. Of course, the TLP223GA and TLP223J can be used in other circuits as replacements for mechanical relays.
