A group of toucan leaders intends to seek this week the ex-governor of São Paulo João Doria to convince him not to withdraw from public life in this election year.
After announcing his withdrawal from the presidential race last month, the toucan traveled abroad and returned to Brazil last weekend.
On social media, before the trip abroad, Doria informed that, upon returning from the rest week, she would make the decision about her future “in public life or in the private sector”.
For party leaders, including critics of her candidacy for the presidential succession, the toucan is an important asset of the PSDB and its role in the electoral campaign could be crucial for the eventual growth of Senator Simone Tebet (MDB-MS).
For this reason, leaders of the party have suggested behind the scenes that the toucan compete for a post in the Legislative Power or be contemplated with a prominent role in the tucano national summit.
According to the toucan’s allies, he should talk this week with party leaders to make a decision. Doria has even been contacted by the national president of the PSDB, Bruno Araújo, who told CNN Brazil to be in contact with São Paulo.
The PSDB has scheduled a meeting for Thursday (9) to enshrine support for the name of Simone Tebet for the Planalto Palace. Today, the tendency is for the party to occupy the post of candidate for vice president, with the name of Senator Tasso Jereissati (CE).
For the announcement, however, PSDB and MDB need to close an alliance in at least three state platforms: Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco and Minas Gerais. The party set Wednesday (8) as the deadline.
