Touching photo: She holds her husband’s hand for the first time in a year

The photo of an elderly couple who sees the light of day in the midst of a pandemic is moving. The 82-year-old woman was able to hold her husband’s hand again after 12 months.

Thelma Barnett was the first visitor to The Lawns Nursing Home in England after the relaxation of some measures taken against him coronavirus.

Basil Barnett, 83, her husband of 60 years, suffers from dementia and has only seen his wife through a screen. For Thelma, visiting her husband meant a lot.

The head of the nursing home, Melanie Dawson, said that the visit went “wonderfully”, as broadcast by the BBC. Commenting on the couple’s photo, he said it was “the right image of love”. “It was wonderful, really good for her to sit down with him and have a conversation,” he said.

“It’s great because we only talked on FaceTime and that’s very good for me, but Basel doesn’t understand. “But he understands when I enter the room through the door and he sees me, he smiles; something that is wonderful,” said Ms. Barnett.

The pair of has met up close a few times in the last year: in the summer outside in the garden and again in December, when screens were set up in the nursing home.

“He does not really understand the change of days, he only knows what happens on the day he lives. “But he knows he has a moment of satisfaction in those moments when he sees the people he knows and likes,” he added.

Family members can now see their relatives in nursing homes if they wear masks and get tested for coronavirus.
