Already under the relaxation of measures against Covid-19, Brazilians traveled at record levels in 2021. Data from the Brazilian Association of Tour Operators (Braztoa), released this Friday (8), show that about 7.4 million of people boarded during the last year, after closing packages with travel agencies.
According to the Braztoa yearbook, the number of shipments represents an increase of 124.6% compared to 2020. In absolute values, the 2021 season recorded 3.3 million more people, compared to the first year of the new coronavirus pandemic. .
The indicators were also higher than before the health crisis. Compared to 2019, for example, the volume of shipments in 2021 was 14.2% higher. In numbers, the difference was approximately 1 million people.
Regarding the duration of the trips, the medium duration itineraries (between 5 and 9 days) were the most chosen by Brazilians in the period. According to the survey, 61% of passengers had Brazilian states as their final destination and the rest preferred to travel to other countries.
The president of Braztoa, Roberto Haro Nedelciu, explains that the high demand of Brazilians for travel is related to the period of social restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Domestic boarding surpassed all the values already registered, demonstrating that the travel sector knew how to reinvent itself and create new products, in addition to the existence of a repressed demand that has already started to be remedied and, mainly, the inclusion of travel in the agenda of interests and needs of Brazilians”, said Roberto Haro Nedelciu.
Despite the good number of passengers, the financial result of tour operators was below pre-pandemic standards. In 2021, tour operators reached BRL 7.1 billion in revenue, a recovery of 77.3% compared to the previous year. However, when compared to 2019, this number is 44% below what was recorded in the period (R$ 15.1 billion).
The short financial result, even with a record volume of passengers, is explained by travel rescheduling during the first year of the pandemic. It is worth mentioning that there is still a volume of trips that were purchased before the pandemic and could only be performed in 2021.
