The Monthly Index of Tourism Activity (Imat), measured by the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of São Paulo (FecomercioSP), showed an increase of 88% in the capital of São Paulo in March, compared to March 2021.
According to the entity, the elevation occurs after the return of events with public in the city, such as the Lollapalooza Festival, held from March 25 to 27.
Among the variables that make up the index, the hotel occupancy rate was the highlight, with an increase of 20.8% compared to the same period in 2021.
In March, traffic at the bus stations also advanced: around one million passengers passed through the capital’s terminals – 600,000 more than in March of last year.
High at airports
At the airports of São Paulo, Congonhas and Guarulhos, the movement in March was 3.9 million passengers, an increase of 146% in the annual comparison.
The resumption of tourism has also impacted employment. Activities related to the sector increased hiring by 5% in the annual counterpoint, representing 18 thousand new workers with a formal contract in relation to March 2021 numbers.
Imat is composed of five variables: stock of direct tourism jobs; revenue from the tourism sector in the city of São Paulo; movement of São Paulo bus terminals; movement of São Paulo airports, except Viracopos; and occupancy rate of the São Paulo hotel chain.
