Tourist activities rise 2.5% in April, points out IBGE

The special aggregate of Tourist activities grew 2.5% in April compared to March, according to data from the Monthly Services Survey, released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The segment still operates 3.4% below the level of February 2020, in the pre-pandemic period.

From March to April, all 12 surveyed locations had expansion, especially Rio de Janeiro (4.8%), Minas Gerais (4.6%), Bahia (6.8%) and Paraná (7.4 %).

In comparison with April 2021, the volume index of tourist activities in Brazil increased by 85.7% in April 2022, the 13th positive rate in a row, driven by the air transport sectors; restaurants; hotels; car rental; collective passenger road; catering services; and travel agencies.

All 12 units of the Federation investigated showed advances, especially São Paulo (82.4%), Minas Gerais (132.7%), Rio de Janeiro (57.9%), Bahia (105.7%) and Rio de Janeiro. Grande do Sul (104.5%).

Passenger transport grew by 2.3% in April compared to March, according to data from the Monthly Service Survey released by the IBGE.

The result made the segment operate 0.1% above the level of February 2020, in the pre-pandemic.

“After two years and two months, passenger transport surpassed the pre-pandemic level for the first time, thus ratifying the greater mobility of the population, reflected in the increase in revenues of companies that operate passenger transport in its various modes. : air, road and subway-rail”, pointed out the IBGE, in a note.

Despite the improvement, passenger transport still operates 23.1% below the peak reached in February 2014.

Cargo transport had a slight drop of 0.1% in April compared to March, but still operates 23.1% above the pre-pandemic.

The cargo transport indicator worked in April at a level 0.1% below the highest point in the series seen in March 2022.

The historical series of cargo and passenger transport began in January 2011, with results only for the aggregate of Brazil, without regional data.

In comparison with April 2021, passenger transport grew by 81.6% in April 2022, while cargo transport increased by 9.9%.
