Influencer Paloma Souza, who was bitten by a monkey during a trip to Thailand, had to return to Brazil after developing a severe allergic reaction during post-exposure treatment. Paloma spent more than R$7,000 on rabies vaccines and shared her stories on her social networks.
After the monkey bite, Paloma began the rabies vaccination protocol. In a video, she reports on the difficulties encountered in Japan, where she tried to continue her treatment.
She also described the side effects she felt after applying the second dose: “I felt very sick, fever, chills, sore throat, head hurting ”.
The situation worsened when Paloma began to have a strong allergic reaction.
In another video, she shows the state of her skin and expresses her frustration: “This is the state of my skin right now. I’m having a very severe allergic reaction to rabies vaccines. This allergy is very rare. . It wasn’t even supposed to be happening.” See below:
The influencer reported the difficulty in obtaining medical help in Japan: “I had an online consultation with the Brazilian doctor, he gave me the medicine, he gave me a prescription with an international code and here they don’t accept it, they only accept Japanese prescriptions”.
Faced with the lack of support and the worsening of her allergic condition, Paloma decided to bring forward her return to Brazil: “I’m coming home, because I’m scared.” The influencer had to pay another R$13,600 to get a return flight with shorter travel time, due to the urgency of the situation.
Previous flight options had very long durations (48 to 50 hours), and she chose to pay extra to shorten the travel time to around 20 hours.
Once in Brazil, Paloma sought medical care and spoke to a professional at the Health and Rehabilitation Center (CSR) in her city, where anti-rabies vaccines are administered.
Despite the scare, Paloma reassured her followers: “Now I’m home, I’m fine and now that I’m in Brazil, it will be easier to resolve things.”
Next Wednesday (22), Paloma will receive the results of her exams and continue with treatment.
