Emanuela Sampaio, an insurance broker from Salvador, was staying in a hotel opposite the site of the aircraft crash. In an interview with CNN, she described the moment of impact: “We were still lying down and woke up to a huge noise, a flash in the room. The windows on the floor I’m on are all facing Avenida das Hortênsias, so we took the hit, some of the hotel’s windows broke.”
Panic and confusion among guests
The accident caused panic among hotel guests. According to Emanuela, “everyone got up and went downstairs in their pajamas. The elevators filled with people, all without understanding.” Initially, it was thought that the explosion may have occurred at a nearby gas station or restaurant.
