The World Car Awards (WCA) selected the top contenders for the World Car of the Year title. This is a prestigious international award for the automotive industry.
This year, three cars from three different brands are competing for the victory. These are the Toyota Yaris compact hatchback, the Honda E city electric car and the Volkswagen ID.4 electric crossover. In addition to them, Audi A3, BMW 2-series in Gran Coupe and 4-series modifications, Kia K5 and Sorento, Mazda MX-30 and Mercedes-Benz GLA also claimed the title of the best car of 2021, but they were eliminated at the previous qualifying stage.
In addition to the main World Car of the Year award, the WCA will also have nominations in other categories. So, for the title of “Premium Car of the Year” the struggle is between the new Land Rover Defender, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Polestar 2. The city car of the year can be Honda E, Honda Jazz or Toyota Yaris. The Audi RS Q8, Porsche 911 Turbo and or Toyota GR Yaris have chances to become the best sports car of this year. Design awards will go to the Honda E, Land Rover Defender or Mazda MX-30. The winners will be announced on April 20.
It is worth recalling that the World Car of the Year award has been awarded since January 2004. The car that claims to be the best must be sold in at least five countries and on two continents. In 2020, the Telluride crossover of the Korean auto giant KIA received this award, overtaking rivals in the face of Mazda3 and Mazda CX-30.
