Toyota recently unveiled the Land Cruiser 300 SUV, which made a lot of noise with its design. Now one very curious detail has become known about the car.
As it turned out, in its home market, where pre-orders are already open, Toyota obliged dealers to take a written commitment with the client that the car will not be resold or exported to another country within 12 months after purchase.
Due to suspicions that some of the 22,000 pre-orders that Toyota has already accepted were issued for further resale and export outside of Japan, the manufacturer even stopped accepting orders.
Toyota attributed this decision to issues of safety and brand reputation. In particular, the company is worried that immediately after the start of sales, the Land Cruiser 300 will find itself in areas of military conflict, where Toyota cars are highly valued due to their reliability and unpretentiousness. For legal purposes, Toyota is referring to the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act in this case.
Outside sources say the move was prompted by a recent US government inquiry as to why terrorist groups around the world have so many Toyota cars.
