Toyota expanded production stoppages at some factories in Japan on Wednesday (8), because of a shortage of components shipped from parts factories in Southeast Asia.
The latest outages will cut car production by 9,000 vehicles when added to announcements released on Thursday, affecting production of four-wheel-drive Lexus and Land Cruiser models, Toyota said.
Though limited, the cuts come as Toyota tries to make up for lost production due to supply chain disruptions in Malaysia and Vietnam that have forced it to cut production even as demand picks up in markets like China. with the end of coronavirus blocks.
The world’s largest automaker by volume said it is meeting an annual production target set in September of making 9 million vehicles by the end of March.
“We’d like to keep 9 million units, but we’ll keep an eye on the situation,” a Toyota spokesman said.
