On the official website of Toyota, information appeared that the Hilux pickup in a sporty version of the GR Sport will still be presented in the European market – earlier, back in October 2021, the manufacturer released this version for Japan. Now the truck has been slightly changed (the difference between the European and Japanese versions is minimal), and an approximate release date has been named – the pickup will be delivered to the brand’s dealers this summer. Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not name the exact date or at least the cost of the vehicle for the European market – this information will appear closer to the summer.

The body of the Hilux GR Sport, which is quite expected, hardly differs from the original model – the difference is noticeable only in the decorative elements. For example, in the sports version of the pickup, the corporate-style radiator grille is painted black (even the logo was made black), mirrors, footrests, wheel arch extensions and, of course, 17-inch wheels are decorated in a similar color style. This, however, is where the difference between the versions ends. There are some changes in the cabin – it is created from a combination of leather and faux suede, which looks quite expensive and presentable, plus there are GR Sport emblems, pedals with aluminum pads and carbon inserts throughout the cabin.

The most important differences between the original version and the sports one are under the hood – the manufacturer uses a sufficiently powerful (204 horsepower at 500 Nm of torque) diesel engine with a volume of 2.8 liters (in the Japanese version there was a diesel engine with a volume of 2.4 liters), which is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a plug-in all-wheel drive. There’s also a host of improvements to monotube shock absorbers, redesigned springs, an automatic rear differential lock, and A-TRC traction control. Due to this, according to the manufacturer, grip with the road has been significantly improved, handling has increased, and roll when cornering has significantly decreased.
