Trade balance ends 2021 with a surplus of US$ 61 billion

The Brazilian trade balance registered a positive balance of US$ 61.008 billion in 2021. The value represents an increase of 21.1% in relation to the previous year, but it is less than the US$ 70 billion expected by the economic team.

The numbers were released by the Ministry of Economy this Monday (3). The current of trade, which serves as a thermometer for economic activity, advanced 35.8%, totaling US$ 499.7 billion.

According to the folder, the scenario of higher commodity prices boosts exports from Brazil at a record level. “Uncertainty regarding the external scenario remains high in 2022, given signs of a possible new wave of Covid and the implementation of new restrictive measures already started in some countries in Europe. Monetary normalization process in advanced economies is also a risk factor”, he ponders.

In December alone, the balance’s surplus was R$3.9 billion, a value 39.7% higher than that registered in the same month in 2020.

In the year, exports reached a record US$ 280.4 billion and imports totaled US$ 219.4 billion. The numbers represent an increase of 34% and 38.2%, respectively, compared to 2020.
