The Brazilian trade balance registered a surplus of US$ 62.310 billion in 2022, according to the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC).
This is the best result in the historical series, surpassing the previous record of US$ 61.406 billion from 2021.
Exports totaled US$ 335.007 billion last year, up 19.3% compared to 2021. Imports reached US$ 272.697 billion, up 24.3% in the same comparison. Both sales and purchases from abroad also register annual records in the historical series.
The result came within the range of estimates in the Projeções Broadcast survey, which ranged from a surplus of US$ 59.90 billion to US$ 64.0 billion, with a median of US$ 61.60 billion.
Comparing the daily average, there was a 36.1% increase in agricultural exports in 2022, a 26.2% increase in sales by the manufacturing industry and a 4.6% drop in mining and quarrying.
As for imports, there was a rise of 6.3% in agriculture in the year, growth of 69.8% in the extractive industry and growth of 22.9% in the manufacturing industry.
December
In December, the Brazilian trade balance registered a surplus of US$ 4.779 billion. Exports totaled US$ 26.645 billion last month, an increase of 14.0% compared to December 2021. Imports reached US$ 21.865 billion, an increase of 12.0% in the same comparison.
The result for the month came within the range of estimates in the survey by Projeções Broadcast, which ranged from a surplus of US$ 2.590 billion to US$ 6.0 billion, with a median of US$ 3.350 billion.
Comparing the daily average, there was a 29.4% increase in agricultural exports in December compared to the same month in 2021, growth of 5.5% in sales by the manufacturing industry and a 24.5% increase in mining and quarrying.
As for imports, there was an increase of 6.7% in agriculture in the month, growth of 29.0% in extractive industry and increase of 12.1% in manufacturing industry.
The balance registered a US$ 626 million surplus in the last week of December (26th to 31st). Exports totaled US$ 2.458 billion and imports reached US$ 1.832 billion in the period.
