Trade sector optimism has third consecutive decline, says CNC

Not even the proximity to Black Friday and Christmas was enough to encourage Brazilian traders, according to a survey released by the National Confederation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), this Thursday (18th).

The survey carried out in all capitals and the Federal District shows that trade confidence dropped by 1.3% in November, when compared to the previous month. This is the third consecutive fall in optimism in the sector.

According to the Confederation, the result implies that even with the increase in the circulation of people on the streets and malls, the economic situation has affected business confidence. Among the factors hindering the recovery are inflation, the devaluation of the real, in addition to the rise in fuel and energy prices.

The Trade Entrepreneur Confidence Index (Icec) reached 119 points and remains in the zone above 100 points, the base level of satisfaction. The indices can be between 0 and 200.

The biggest drops in confidence were registered in the North (2.6%) and Southeast (2.1%). Despite this, the index also decreased in the South (1.2%) and in the Northeast (0.8%).

The Midwest was the only region with growth of 0.6%, driven by the effects of the prosperity of agribusiness and exports. All regions, however, are at a level above 100 points.

In relation to the size of companies, the biggest drop in confidence was registered by medium and large establishments, with 2.2%. Meanwhile, the smaller ones had a 1.3% drop in the index.

The data shows a swing in optimism, as the confidence indicator has dropped eight times in 11 months. The monthly result, however, did not cancel out the performance of confidence in 2021, which rose about 9.7% so far.

Expectations

In November, the indicator of expectations for the economy reached 152.7 points. Around 56% of traders believe the economic situation could improve a little, while around 27% expect the scenario to improve a lot.

Another 5.7% of entrepreneurs predict that the economy will get much worse and 10.2% believe that the situation will get a little worse in the coming months.
