Traffic agent and former civil servant were part of a group specializing in fraudulent sales of driver's licenses in Bahia

Four people were arrested this Wednesday morning (28), in western Bahia, to combat the criminal scheme of selling National Driving Licenses (CNH), with fraudulent issuance of the document to customers inside and outside the state.

“Operation Stop Driver” was launched by the Federal Police (PF), in partnership with the Special Action Group for the Repression of Organized Crime (Gaeco) of the State Public Ministry (MP-BA).

According to information released by the agencies, in addition to the execution of four preventive arrest warrants, there were also 21 search and seizure warrants in the Bahian cities of Bom Jesus da Lapa, Canarana, Coribe, Correntina, Santa Maria da Vitória and São Félix do Coribe, and in Brasília (DF) and Goiânia (GO), at residential and commercial addresses.

A public agent from the 17th Regional Traffic District (Ciretran), in Santa Maria da Vitória, a former employee of the agency and members of driving schools were arrested. The removal of the 17th Ciretran employee and the freezing of the assets of the four involved were also decreed.

They are being investigated for operating the scheme and committing the crimes of criminal association, active and passive corruption, ideological falsehood, falsification of public documents, money laundering and embezzlement.

Prisoners can face a maximum sentence of more than 40 years in prison, in addition to the loss of all assets acquired through the crimes.

Based on anonymous complaints, investigations indicate that the scheme has existed since 2016, the year in which a “high” number of licenses were found to be granted to people who did not live in Santa Maria da Vitória, including those coming from other states.

The scheme consisted of selling driver's licenses to people who did not pass the assessment required by the Department of Traffic (Detran), therefore without technical approval in terms of practical and theoretical knowledge to qualify as drivers.

According to the PF and MP-BA, investigations continue based on the seized material (computers, documents, cell phones), with the aim of identifying new materials and collecting new information.

The operation, which was attended by 90 police officers, was taken to the Barreiras Federal Police Station.
