Traffic agent dies after being run over by fleeing criminals in Rio

A traffic officer died after being run over while working, this Monday (8), on Avenida Brasil, the main one in Rio de Janeiro. Alexsandro de Lima da Silva was on a motorcycle when he was hit by fleeing criminals in Penha, north of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the Military Police, an off-duty police officer responded to an attempted robbery. The criminals tried to escape and ended up running over the employee of the Traffic Engineering Company (CET-Rio). The two were arrested.

The victim was taken to the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital, also in Penha, but did not survive.

On social media, CET-Rio lamented the death of the server.

The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, also published a message about the case.

“I offer my solidarity and ask that God comfort the family and friends of Alexsandro de Lima da Silva, one of our CET-Rio traffic operators, who died while providing service to the population. He was the fatal victim of criminals who were fleeing from the police authorities on Av. Brasil. Thanks to the work of @PMERJ, they were captured and arrested”, wrote Paes.
