Three men were killed and two were injured in an exchange of gunfire between rival groups last Saturday night (30) on Ilha de Boipeba, Cairu district, in the south of Bahia.
According to the Civil Police, the confrontation was motivated by the territorial dispute over control of drug trafficking in the region. Known for being a tourist destination in Bahia, Boipeba Island has faced challenges related to public safety, especially due to the expansion of drug trafficking in previously quiet areas.
The victims were identified as Luciano da Conceição Santos, 21 years old, Wellington da Silva e Silva, 27, and Marcos Souza de Jesus, 37. Teams from the Cairu Territorial Police Station issued expert guides and contacted the Technical Police Department (DPT), which carried out the examination on site and sent the bodies to the Legal Medical Institute (IML). According to the Civil Police, witnesses have already started to be interviewed to assist in the investigations.
The Valença Police Station is responsible for investigating the case, including identifying the suspects and the detailed circumstances of the crime. The Civil Police reported that the perpetrators of the crime remain at large.
