One child was killed and four people were injured, Two of them seriously, in an explosion from a gas leak, which resulted in the destruction of two houses in Haysham (northwest England), on Saturday night to Sunday, police announced.
“We are operating at the site of an explosion, possibly from a gas leak (…), which caused the collapse of two houses, while causing severe damage to a third,” said Lancashire police, who were called to the area at 02.40 local time, according to the ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ.
“Unfortunately, we can now confirm that one child has died and four other people have been injured, two of them seriously,” he added in a Twitter message.
Residents of the area were evacuated from their homes, according to the same source.
“My wife and I thought it was an earthquake, which woke us up. “The whole house was shaken,” said Dan Knowles, who lives a few blocks from the crash site, at the Press Association news agency.
