At least 16 workers have been killed and several others are feared trapped due to the collapse crane during construction works bridge in its western state of Maharashtra of India.
Footage broadcast by Indian television shows the wreckage of the crane on the groundbetween pillars of the bridge, near Shahapur, about 80 km from the state capital Mumbai.
Rescue crews are trying to retrieve the victims and have so far recovered the bodies of 16 workers, according to an official of the disaster response service and as reported by the Athens News Agency. At the same time, there are Indian media that speak of 17 dead already.

The causes of the collapse of the huge crane are not yet clear.
Federal Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his “sorrow” over the accident and his “deepest condolences” to the families of the workers killed via X (formerly Twitter).
He also announced monetary aid with a value of 200,000 rupees (approx. 2,200 euros) to the families of the dead and 50,000 rupees (approx. 550 euros) to the injured.
