At least 25 people were killed and 17 others injured when the bus in which they were riding went off the road and crashed into a cliff in a mountainous region of the state of Oaxaca in the south Mexico.
The bus had departed from Mexico City bound for Santiago de Yosundua, in the western part of the state.
The accident happened at 06:30 (local time, 14:30 Greek time) in the area of Magdalena Peniasko, when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a bend and the bus fell down a 25-meter cliff. According to Mexican media reports, the driver may have had a brake problem.
Volunteers rushed to help the rescuers who were trying for hours to extricate the passengers from the battered sheets of the fatal bus.
The governor of Oaxaca state, Salomon Jara, expressed his deep sorrow for the fatal accident and his condolences to the families of the victims.
About three hours before the bus crash in Oaxaca, eight people were injured in a multi-vehicle pileup in the state of Queretaro (center). A tanker was engulfed in flames and the fire spread to other vehicles.
