Two children from Russia were arrested in Spain accused of killing their stepmother this week. Silvia López Gayubas, 48, was found dead on Wednesday night in Castro Urdiales, Cantabria, where her body was discovered inside a car in the garage of her home, according to local newspaper El Diario Montañés.
THE mother she was found bound, stabbed and with a bag over her head. El Español reported that she was found around 9 p.m., before the Spanish Civil Guard began searching the area for her two missing minor children, who the agency noted are from Russia. The children were eventually found in a nearby park after a search that ended around 2 a.m., according to El Diario Montañés.
The children –aged 15 and 13 – they allegedly faked a kidnapping, for which they reportedly called their grandmother. Preliminary investigations showed that the older brother hit his mother in the neck with a sharp object. The boys' father reportedly worked through the night. “He didn't believe it. He was devastated,” a source told El Diario.

The report said both children were adopted from Russia and were transferred to the Command of the Armed Institute in Santander after the alleged crime. The youngest child entered a child protection center and was waiting to be transferred to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, where he would undergo a psychosocial examination, according to El Diario. A prosecutor will then decide whether to request a “preventive measure” from a juvenile judge.
