At least 16 people, including Ukraine’s interior minister and two children, died today and 22 were taken to hospital after a helicopter crashed this morning near Kyiv in the town of Brovary, police said.
“We have information about 16 dead, including 2 children,” the police said in a statement.
The interior minister, his deputy minister and another high-ranking official who were on board the helicopter were also killed, the police statement said.
Earlier, the governor of Kyiv, Oleksii Kuleba, said that a helicopter had crashed near a kindergarten and a residential building.
According to officials, apart from the two children who died, ten children have been hospitalized.
Ambulances, police and firefighters rushed to the scene of the accident, according to Koulebas.
A representative of the Ukrainian capital region police, cited by the public network Suspilné, also said that “a fire broke out” at the time of the accident.
