A total of 13 people died after a fire broke out in a dormitory school in central Henan province Chinaas reported by the official Chinese news agency Xinhua.
“At 11:00 p.m. yesterday Friday (local time; 5:00 p.m. Greek time), the local fire department was alerted to a fire in the Yingchai school dormitory in Yanshanpu village”, the agency reported, citing authorities. He added how injured person was taken to a hospital and that “he is in a stable condition”.
According to the same source, the fire brigade and first aid services attended the scene immediately and “the flames were extinguished at 23:38 (17:38)”.
Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the murder firestate media added.
Accidents are frequent in China, in many cases due to neglect of basic safety rules.
In November, 26 people died and dozens were injured in a fire at a coal-producing company building in Shaanxi (northern) province.
In April, a fire at a hospital in Beijing killed 29 people. It was one of the worst disasters in the last twenty years in the Chinese capital.
That fire forced patients to try to climb out of windows, hanging from sheets, or perch on outdoor air conditioning units on the building's facade to escape.
