A woman died in Brazil – two days after he was hit in the neck by a beer bottle during a fight in field football. Gabriela Agnelli, 23, suffered two heart attacks after she was hit outside Allianz Parque while waiting to get in.
According to her brother Felipe, she was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery after the hit, having previously undergone heart, lung and kidney operations.
Palmeiras football club, which plays at the Sao Paulo stadium, said on social media that it “cannot accept that a 23-year-old woman is the victim of brutality in a place that should be for fun”.
He added that he wanted the police to investigate what happened as it “damages the image of Brazilian football”.
Leonardo Santiago, 26, threw the bottle that hit her in the neck, according to Sao Paulo authorities and as reported by the Daily Mail.
On the same day, another incident took place in a different area of the pitch shortly before the woman was injured, prompting the referee to stop the match to disperse the tear gas used by the police, according to Sky News.
Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, said he was working with the authorities to prevent criminal and sad incidents like this from happening again.”
