A 15 year old girl from Alabama USA He died tragically last Saturday when he was struck by lightning while swimming off the coast of Georgia.
The police department of the area where the tragic incident took place received a phone call about a woman who may have been hit while swimming in the ocean, according to a statement posted on Facebook.
By the time police arrived, the victim had been transported from the beach and firefighters were trying to offer her first aid. The girl’s death was reported at the hospital.
“Upon meeting the family, police learned that he was 15 years old and was visiting Tybee Island from Alabama,” the statement said.
“The men and women of Tybee Island are deeply saddened by the loss of this young woman and our hearts remain with her family and friends.”
The moving post garnered hundreds of comments, including one from one who saw the tragedy unfold.
“I was on my porch when this happened and the lifeguards’ reaction time was incredible. He was on the spot within 15 seconds of being hit lightning. “Prayers for all involved,” wrote eyewitness Sunny Ray.
“My family was on the beach at that time, not far from this place. “My family will always remember this family for its horrific loss,” said another eyewitness, Cindy Banister Heiman.
THE death of the girl was the second this year in the US by lightning. On Wednesday, according to the NY Post, Michael Ward, 70, died when he was struck by lightning while playing golf in New Jersey.
The figures show a total of 17 lightning deaths in 2020.
