The wife of Dom Phillips, Alessandra Sampaio, released a statement on Wednesday night (15) in which she says that – although she is awaiting definitive confirmation – the “tragic outcome puts an end to the anguish of not knowing the whereabouts of Dom and Bruno”. .
The note was released by the Union of Indigenous Organizations of Vale do Javari (Univaja), after the police confirmed that bodies were found in the area indicated by the suspects of involvement in the crime.
“Although we are still awaiting definitive confirmations, this tragic outcome puts an end to the anguish of not knowing the whereabouts of Dom and Bruno. Now we can take them home and say goodbye with love,” wrote Alessandra.
British journalist Dom Phillips and indigenist Bruno Pereira Araújo have been missing since June 5th in the Vale do Javari region, an area of indigenous lands in Amazonas.
One of the main suspects in the disappearance, Amarildo Oliveira da Costa, known as Pelado, confessed to having participated in the murder of the duo. The information was passed on by Federal Police sources to the CNN this Wednesday (15th).
“Today, our journey in search of justice also begins. I hope that the investigations exhaust all possibilities and bring definitive answers, with all the pertinent developments, as soon as possible”, said the journalist’s wife.
