A tour for history buffs will open soon between Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais . It is about “Tourist Train of the 1932 Revolution “, which will link the cities of Cruzeiro, in the interior of São Paulo, and Passa Quatro, in Minas.

Since 2019, the Brazilian Association for Railway Preservation (ABPF) has been leading the revitalization process of the Minas-Rio Railway, inaugurated by Dom Pedro II in 1884. paulistas against the government of Getúlio Vargas, that this new tour will take place.

In December it will be possible to have a taste of what will happen. A stretch of six kilometers, which connects the station in the city of Cruzeiro to that of Rufino de Almeida, in a rural area, will now be available to the public.

The complete work, which aims to recover the tracks abandoned for more than three decades, is scheduled for 2024. The Maria Fumaça locomotive and another diesel locomotive to transport tourists are also being restored.

The Mantiqueira Tunnel will be one of the attractions of the new tour. The site, which has a length of 1km, was marked by important clashes between São Paulo and federal forces at the time.

It is worth mentioning that the city of Passa Quatro, in Minas Gerais, already has a train ride called “Trem da Serra da Mantiqueira” – which passes very close to the tunnel. It has nothing to do with the new attraction and will continue to function normally.
