A strike weekend begins, which will inevitably be complex for those traveling by train. Today, Friday, we start with the agitation in the railway network infrastructure maintenance sector, and tomorrow and Sunday it will be the turn of the national strike which concerns the FS Group and Trenord.
Friday, strike in the maintenance sector
Workers in the maintenance sector are going on strike today: the USB disputes the application of the agreement on work organization signed with FiltCgil, FitCisl, UilTrasporti, OrSaFerrovie, UglFerrovie, FastTrasporti. «What is at stake is, beyond the worsening of working conditions in the sector», explain the unions, «an attack on the sacrosanct right to trade union democracy in the workplace, to the right to express an opinion on agreements and to that of each worker to freely choose who to be represented by».
Saturday and Sunday, train strike
From 9pm tomorrow, Saturday 4 May, until 8.59pm on Sunday 5 May, the agitation concerns the staff of the FS Group, Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord: the strike was proclaimed by an autonomous organisation, the Cat (Self-organised transport coordination). Trains may be subject to cancellations or changes, and trade union unrest may lead to changes to the service even before the start and after its conclusion.
As required by the General Conditions of Transport of each carrier – which can be consulted on the website of the individual Railway Companies -, travelers will be able to request a refund of the ticket. For information on connections and services, you can consult the Trenitalia app, the trenitalia.it website and the toll-free number 800 89 20 21. Here guaranteed trains are indicated, but there are no guaranteed time slots, since the day of the strike is a public holiday. Trenitalia specifies that, «since during the strike, unforeseeable changes could occur (for example the change of itinerary for long-distance trains), it is important to provide maximum attention to the press releases disseminated in the stations and by the media». As for trains that are traveling after the strike has started, they still arrive at their final destination if it can be reached within an hour of the start of the trade union agitation; after this period, trains can stop in stations preceding the final destination.
Local public transport strike on Monday
On Monday 6 May the strike concerns the local public transportand is proclaimed by the unions Cub Trasporti, Cobas Lavoro Privato, ADL Cobas, Sgb, Al Cobas and Usb Lavoro Privato, to ask the salary increase of 300 euros and the reduction of weekly working hours from 39 to 35 hours. “The strike could have consequences on our lines from 8.45am to 3pm and after 6pm, until the end of the service”, says ATM Milan. In Rome, the strike starts at 8.30am and continues until 5pm and from 8pm until the end of service. During the strike, the service will be guaranteed exclusively during the legal periods (from the start of the daytime service at 8.29am and from 5pm to 7.59pm).
