Trans activist Dannelly Rocha was murdered at dawn on Friday (2) in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro. She was a cook of Casanem, a host center for LGBTQia+ people in socially vulnerable situations in the state capital.
Danny, as she was known, was 38 years old and was found dead after arriving home accompanied by an unidentified man.
The death was informed by state deputy, Danieli Balbi (PCdoB), the first trans elected woman for office in the state, based on images released by the Rio de Janeiro Military Police.
“She entered the house accompanied by a man who, hours later, went out alone. After that, Danny was found dead. It’s unacceptable. It’s revolting. And it’s urgent. We want to know who it is. We want serious investigation. We want justice. To every trans shemale woman, it’s the society that silences. And we shout: that can’t continue!”
The deputy said will also follow the case closely, as well as making himself available to family and friends. “Danny Rocha present! Danny rests in peace. May our grief become justice,” he added.
Who also spoke was Niterói councilwoman Benny Briolly (PSOL), the first elected and reelected transvestite in the state. Benny charged a serious investigation of the case.
“We want to know who this man is. We want serious, committed investigation, we want justice,” he charged. “We shouted for Danny, for all who came before, and for those who fight today to survive. This can’t continue. Danny Rocha present, now and always.”
To Agência Brasil, Friend of Danny, Manoela Menandro, reported having arrived at home and already faced with police vehicles. She, who was a close friend, said that a neighbor repeated the version that the activist arrived with an unknown boy, who would have left shortly after.
The movement was recorded by a security camera of a rubber shop.
“According to security cameras images, there is a very strong crash on the door, from the inside out. The rubber borrower claimed to have heard like something falling, something being pushed against the door. Shortly thereafter, the cameras show this boy, looking back, looking to one side and the other from the street, taking an object, keeping his pocket from behind the shorts, so half Renaled, a kind of suspiciously, ”said Manoela, who says he believes that Danny’s cell phone is the object kept by the suspect.
Friends for about ten years, Manoela and Danny had a strong connection, described by their friend as a mother and daughter.
“For me, Dannielly has always been like a mother, you know. I won’t even say that she was like an older sister, because Dannielly was like a mother. Every day, for me to work, both me and Ana Luísa, who is our third friend, she who was able to take to work and warm the next day in the microwave to have what to eat,” he said.
“She was the one who took care of my animals, with me indoors, because at home we have both dogs and cat. And she helped me, she who cleaned the house, she cleaned, cooked, helped with everything,” continued Manoela.
Manoela also said that her friend was a fun person who radiated joy and captivated people. “She was a very, very fun person. She was a person who had come out at any time, to have fun, liked to drink her beer. There was no bad time for her,” said Manoela.
Danny’s body, said Manoela, follows at the Rio de Janeiro Legal Medical Institute (IML). According to the friend, the information is that it takes three business days for recognition and release of the body.
