Trans influencer Samara Mapoua was arrested again this Monday (29). According to the suspect's mother, she handed herself in at the police station after a judge from the 4th Criminal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro overturned the decision of the judicial department that had granted an injunction for Mapoua to be released.
The influencer left the Benfica prison, in the north of Rio, on March 31, after being granted habeas corpus. She had been arrested on the 26th of last month for illegal possession of a restricted firearm.
On social media, Mapoua's mother explained that, “to avoid major disruptions and to preserve the safety of everyone involved in her life, we decided to follow the path of complying with the decision, but we will not give up on the freedom that is her right” .
Remember the case
Mapoua, who has more than 5 million followers on TikTok, was with five friends in a car on Avenida Brasil, near Olaria, in the north of Rio, when she was approached by police officers. A pistol was found in the vehicle, with the number scratched off, and intact ammunition. The car, pistol and six cell phones were seized.
To the police, the influencer confessed to owning the gun and informed that she was carrying a weapon out of fear, as she would be threatened. Later, on social media, she changed her version and said that she was arrested in an attempt to protect people who were with her at the time of the police approach.
