Petrobras’ transition group considers that for the policies foreseen in Lula’s government program to be adopted, it will be necessary to review some of the company’s guidelines. This is the summary of the diagnosis made by the group after weeks of discussions, according to Rodrigo Leão, a member of the transition group at the Ministry of Mines and Energy and a researcher at Ineep, an independent research institute in the oil sector.
The coordinator of the transition group, Maurício Tolmasquim, former president of the Energy Research Company (EPE), and Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN), one of the names quoted for the presidency of the state-owned company, met with representatives of the Petrobras this Monday (5), at the company’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
Among the revisions of guidelines that should be suggested are the divestments of the state-owned company and the focus on oil extraction, according to Leão.
The transition group should suggest that the company broaden its focus to other energy sources – in line with what Jean Paul Prates has been saying about transforming the company from an oil company into a clean energy company.
“First of all, we are going to suggest a revision of the strategic plan, which does not consider some aspects that we consider important in the next administration. It will be necessary to review policies such as investment in some assets that the company is trying to give up and that we consider strategic for entering other areas, such as fertilizers and biofuels. Fertilizers to monetize the extraction of natural gas and biofuels to enter clean energy”, says Leão.
Another point highlighted by Leão concerns the divestments that had been planned by Petrobras since the company started the policy of selling assets, after the Lava Jato operation. “We are discussing a repositioning in the refining segment”, says the researcher.
Asked specifically about changes in the company’s pricing policy, which follows international quotations, Leão said that this type of discussion will be up to Petrobras’ new management. “But we are evaluating questions more related to ICMS, since the exemption ends at the end of the year. We are studying what is prudent to be done, ”he says.
