Travis Scott is scheduled to perform at the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday, marking his first major public performance since a mob wave killed ten people and injured thousands at his Astroworld Festival in Houston last November.
Sean “Diddy” Combs, the executive producer and host of this year’s Billboard Music Awards, said he felt strongly that Scott should perform.
“I made a wish. I made a demand. I said, ‘my brother Travis Scott has to perform. Diddy is hosting the show. I’m the executive producer. He has to perform,’ and NBC agreed. He’s falling. Sunday, Travis Scott will perform. Let’s go,” Diddy said in an Instagram post.
Scott was performing at Astroworld on November 5th when a packed crowd took the stage, causing many casualties. Numerous lawsuits have been filed in connection with the tragedy and the event remains under investigation.
Scott denied legal responsibility.
The rapper, singer and producer has made appearances at a few smaller events in recent weeks, performing some of his hits at a Miami nightclub earlier this month.
Scott joins other artists who will perform during the show held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, including Silk Sonic, Megan Thee Stallion and Mary J. Blige.
