The earthquake that hit the city of Sonora, located in Mato Grosso do Sul this Tuesday (13), generated at least 16 more replicas of seismic shaking in the state.
According to the Brazilian Seismographic Network (RSBR), secondary tremors are common and may occur after the main earthquake. The events after the primary phenomenon had low magnitudes between 1.0 and 2.1. The last of the series, until the last publication of the network, would have occurred at 9:20 am on the 13th.
Only in 2025, Mato Grosso do Sul has recorded nine seismic shakes, with magnitudes between 1.6 and 3.5.
The 16 replicas series was analyzed by the USP seismology center. According to José Alexandre, seismologist at the center responsible for the land tremors bulletin, the main earthquake occurred 100 kilometers of sound (MS).
He pointed out that occurrences are relatively common in the Pantanal region. According to Joseph, in March this year, for example, Poconé recorded an earthquake of magnitude 4.4.
Remember the last tremors in MS
Two earthquakes have been recorded in the last 24 hours in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
