TrendForce predicts more than 3% of all produced DRAM will go to automotive electronics in 2024

Automotive electronic systems are becoming more complex, resulting in an increase in the average DRAM volume per vehicle. Although cars are still far from smartphones, in the coming years this figure will triple and exceed 6 GB. This forecast is given by TrendForce analysts. They clarify that by 2024 more than 3% of all produced DRAM will go to automotive electronics, if you count in units of information volume. This is not least due to the development of self-driving technology.

TrendForce experts identify four main categories of automotive DRAM applications: infotainment systems, ADAS, telematics, and D-clusters (digital instrument clusters). Most DRAM is required for the first category. In addition, infotainment applications are the most attractive for manufacturers because current legislation and car safety standards governing infotainment systems are not as strict as, say, in the case of ADAS. TrendForce expects infotainment systems to remain the main driver of automotive DRAM consumption growth through 2024.
