TrinamiX, a pioneer in 3D camera technology and infrared sensing, announced that its secure face authentication solution now works with OLED displays on mobile devices. Simply put, the 3D camera was placed behind the OLED screen, which saves smartphone designers from having to look for an off-screen space for it.

In addition, trinamiX has added an extra layer of security for face authentication: not only captures 2D images and 3D depth maps, but also checks for “living skin” on the face in real time. This makes it difficult to deceive the system, virtually eliminating unlocking using a realistic mask, 3D sculpture or 2D print.
With real-time authentication, trinamiX guarantees a hassle-free user experience for face unlocking, mobile payments and access control systems. However, the hardware consists only of a standard CMOS sensor and a near infrared projector.
The company will demonstrate the solution at the MWC event to be held in Shanghai from February 23-25.
