Trinto message for a united front of the West against China

Western nations must form a united front against China to prevent the Asian state from exploiting its trade interests, manipulating them and turning them against each other, said the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trinto, during his TV interview.

For the head of the Canadian government, Beijing is plotting, “turning” one country against the other, as they compete for access to economic opportunities in the Chinese market.

“We compete and China, at times, cleverly turns us against each other.”, he said during the interview on the Global TV network.

“We have to do a better job, work together and take a strong stand so that China can not take advantage of our competition and divide us, turn us against each other.”, insisted Mr. Trinto.

The relationship between Canada and in China reached the worst point in decades after the arrest, in 2018, of the financial director and daughter of the founder of the Chinese giant telecommunications company Huawei, Meng Wangzhou, at the request of the US, who demanded her extradition. Beijing later arrested two Canadians accused of espionage for refusing to engage in hostage diplomacy, as Ottawa denounced.

Ms Meng reached an agreement with US prosecutors in September, ending the court series. The two Canadians were released and returned home a few hours later.

But even before Ms Meng’s case, Canadian criticism of human rights issues angered China and bilateral relations were rather cold. The happy outcome of the case of the Huawei Chief Financial Officer of both Canadians did not break the ice.

Earlier in December, the Canadian government made it clear that it, like other allies, would not send diplomats to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing in February to send a message to China’s leadership that human rights abuses blames the West are not tolerated.
