LAST UPDATE: 23.25

The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trindade announced tonight the sending of new weapons and equipment to Ukraine, after his surprise visit to Kyiv.

Speaking at a news conference following talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trinto said Canada would impose new sanctions on Russian citizens and businesses linked to the invasion of Ukraine. “Today, I am announcing more military assistance, unmanned aerial vehicles, satellite imagery, light weapons, ammunition and more, such as funding for demining operations,” he said.

“And we will propose new sanctions on 40 Russians and five entities, oligarchs and close associates of the regime in the defense sector, who are all complicit in Putin’s war,” he said.

Canada will also provide $ 25 million to the UN World Food Program as part of its efforts to maintain food security, while lifting trade tariffs on all products imported from Ukraine next year.
