The space flight NS 21, which will take the Brazilian Victor Correa Hespanha into space, was rescheduled for this Saturday (4). Blue Origin, the company of billionaire Jeff Bezos, reported that the launch is scheduled for 10 am, from the company’s command base in Texas (USA).
Hespanha, a 28-year-old production engineer, was selected in early May to be one of the crew on a Blue Origin trip to the “edge of space” along with five other crew members.
The mission was originally scheduled for May 20, but was delayed following a date revision. At the time, Blue Origin reported that during reviews of the New Shepard rocket it was observed that one of the “backup systems” was not “meeting performance expectations”.
The engineer may become only the 2nd Brazilian to undertake a space trip, joining astronaut and former minister Marcos Pontes, who was part of the Centenary Mission and was in International Space Space in 2006.
“Child’s dream”
Victor was drawn after investing in Gen-1, an asset of the Crypto Space Agency.
In a note, the engineer stated that this was the first time he had invested in cryptocurrencies and NFTs. “I bought it thinking about the appreciation potential, I never imagined that I would be drawn. I am fulfilling a childhood dream through an NFT, the penny is still dropping,” he declared.
THE CNN , Victor said he is living a dream. “I am very happy, living a dream. It’s a childhood dream. Every Brazilian dreams of being a football player or being an astronaut and I am fulfilling the dream of going to space,” he said.
The flight will be the fifth crew member of the New Shepard, a Blue Origin rocket, and will have five more crew members in addition to Victor: the American Evan Dick, who has already been part of the New Shepard mission in December 2021; Katya Echazarreta, who will become the first Mexican woman to go into space; Hamish Harding, entrepreneur and commercial airline pilot; and Jaison Robinson and Victor Vescovo, two investors.
