A 20th century fishing village could become one of the most popular destinations in the world in 2022.
That’s what the travel platform believes TripAdvisor, which launched this week the choices of its long-awaited award Travelers’ Choice Awards 2022: The Best of the Best Destinations.
The ultra-modern city of Dubai ranks first, but it is not the only city in the Middle East. And this year’s list ranges from top European hot spots to coveted tropical and desert getaways. Check out.

Why Dubai?
“An ever-popular location, Dubai has been slowly climbing Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards rankings over the past few years and now, in 2022, takes the crown of the world’s number one most popular destination,” said Justin Reid, Director of Media, Destinations and travel on TripAdvisor, for CNN Travel.
“Dubai is an ultra-modern city that has it all: golden beaches, world-class restaurants and wonderful hotels. As the Travelers’ Choice Awards are based on reviews of places to go, stay and things to do in destinations, to be ranked the best in the world means that a destination has received excellent reviews from travelers across all its tourism sectors.” said Reid.
“Despite the effects of the pandemic, Dubai still attracted visitors from near and far in the past year and stood out as a favorite place in a year when it really needed excitement,” he said.
For people looking to join the crowd in Dubai this year, entry rules can be a little tricky and depend on where you are coming from.
The United Arab Emirates, of which Dubai is a part, has opened tourist visa applications for vaccinated travelers from all countries, with the exception of a dozen African nations.
Passengers arriving in Dubai from most countries must present a negative PCR test performed within 72 hours of arrival, but this is reduced to 48 hours for arrivals from select destinations.

The trending destinations category is for the places that have seen the biggest increase in a combination of positive Tripadvisor traveler reviews and ratings of accommodations, restaurants and attractions to visit.

North America’s favorite gambling city tops the US list for 2022, and hot-weather getaways are clearly a huge draw for TripAdvisor users:

According to Tripadvisor, selections honor the most popular locations among their reviewers.
The methodology took into account the quality and volume of reviews from November 1, 2020 to October 31, 2021, “to select destinations that offer the best overall experience for travelers,” he said.
