“Clouds” remain in the global smartphone market, as sales decline for the second consecutive quarter.
According to Canalys, global smartphone sales fell 9% in the second quarter of 2022, compared to the same quarter last year, due to continued economic uncertainty.
According to the company, in the quarter under review Samsung took first place, with a market share of 21%, as it strengthened its offer in the Galaxy A series.
Apple came in second with a 17% share as the iPhone 13 remained in high demand, while Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo continued to “compete” in China, losing market shares globally (14%, 10% and 9% respectively).
“Companies were forced to revise their strategies in the second quarter as the outlook for the smartphone market became more subdued,” said Canalys Research analyst Runar Bjørhovde.
“The decline in demand is a big concern for the entire smartphone supply chain,” Canalys analyst Toby Zhu said.
“While component supplies and cost pressures are improving, some logistics and production concerns remain, such as tighter import laws and customs procedures in some emerging markets that are delaying shipments.
In the short term, manufacturers will look to accelerate sales through promotions and offers during the festive season to ease liquidity pressure,” he pointed out.
Regarding the Greek market and according to last year’s IDC data, almost 1.9 million devices were sold in Greece, compared to 1.784 million in 2020, with Samsung having a 39% market share, Xiaomi 36% and Apple 10% .
