The truce between Israel and Hamas is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. local time (5 a.m. Brasília time) on Thursday (23), an Israeli official told CNN this Wednesday (22).
There is the option for the temporary ceasefire to last up to 10 days, but Israeli officials believe it is unlikely to last that long.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, on Tuesday (21), when the agreement was approved, that for every 10 more hostages that Hamas releases, there will be an additional day of truce in the fighting.
Israel continues to bomb Gaza the day after agreement
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continue their offensive in the Gaza Strip before the start of the agreed truce.
An IDF spokesman said on Wednesday (22) that around 400 tunnel entrances had been discovered and destroyed since October 7.
The spokesperson said the country has carried out new attacks on Hamas infrastructure and continues to target fighters.
It also stated that ground troops carried out attacks in Sheikh Za’id, northwest of Jabalya.
