Trucks with humanitarian aid and fuel enter Gaza after cease-fire begins

As it came into effect truce in the Gaza Strip, ten ambulances they are heading towards Gaza City to remove patients from there, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Ambulance Service, while humanitarian aid has already entered the enclave. The first ceasefire after almost seven weeks of war began at 07:00 this morning and is expected to last at least four days. Qatari officials, who brokered the truce, have pointed out that there may be an extension of up to 10 days. A basic condition of the agreement is the release of some of the hostages held by Hamin the Gaza Strip and Palestinian prisoners from Israel.

Trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered the Gaza Strip through it Rafa Pass shortly after 7 am. In total 200 trucks with humanitarian aid are expected to enter the enclave, as broadcast by APE-MPE. Besides, the Israeli army pointed out that four tankers carrying fuel and others that carry gas have been handed over via Rafah to UN agencies in Gaza. These deliveries were accepted by Israel as part of the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, 10 ambulances have been sent to evacuate the sick and injured from Gaza City, in the northern part of the enclave, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent. The operation is “coordinated and accompanied” by the UN, pointed out the Red Crescent in X. Ambulances left Khan Younis in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Their mission is to evacuate the sick and wounded from al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City.

The bombardment and ground operation in Gaza began after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, when about 1,200 people were killed. Since then more than 14,800 people in the Gaza Strip have been killed, according to Hamas’ health ministry. Much of the densely populated enclave has been reduced to rubble.

Despite the warnings of the Israeli army, after the start of the pause hundreds of displaced Palestinians they left for the northern part of the Gaza Strip to check their homes. The northern Gaza Strip is still “a dangerous war zone,” Israel’s military said, calling on Palestinians to stay in what it called the “humanitarian zone” to the south.

At 16:00 the first 13 Hamas hostages, women and children, are to be released. Three Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli jails for every one hostage, including minors and women. During the truce all sides agreed to suspend military activitiessaid a spokesman for the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas.

For his part, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallad said that Israel will continue its military operations in the Gaza Strip for at least two months when the “short” truce ends. Israel is committed to eliminating Hamas.
