Trump accused of “illegal conspiracy” against 2016 US election; former president pleads not guilty

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office alleges in its indictment that Donald Trump was involved in a conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the 2016 US presidential election.

Prosecutors point out that Trump was part of an illegal plan to suppress negative information – including an illegal $130,000 payment ordered by the defendant to silence information that would harm his campaign.

The indictment alleges that the reason he committed the crime of falsifying business records was, in part, to “promote his candidacy”.

In court on Tuesday, Trump walked slowly in, scanning reporters in the courtroom. He looked at the judge when he was speaking. He will have to appear again before the authorities on December 4th of this year.

The former president faces 34 criminal charges, becoming the first former president to be formally charged. He pleaded not guilty to all alleged crimes.
