United States President Donald Trump again proposed on Thursday the idea of the US to take control of Gaza, offering the idea of a “zone of freedom” as it continued to reflect on the reconstruction of the war devastated by war.
“If necessary, I think it would be proud that the United States would take it, take it, make it a zone of freedom. Let some good things happen, put people in homes where they can be safe and Hamas will have to be faced,” Trump said at a Round Table in Doha with high Catar employees.
The efforts of the US President to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas have been illusory so far, and the former real estate engineer had suggested the idea of the US to take control and develop the site.
“We are working hard in Gaza, and Gaza has been a territory of death and destruction for many years. And, you know, I have ideas for Gaza that I consider very good: to make it a zone of freedom, let the United States get involved and make it just an zone of freedom, have a true zone of freedom,” he said.
He continued: “They never solved the Gaza problem and, if you look, I have aerial photos, I mean, there are hardly no buildings, there are no buildings. People are living under the rubble of buildings that have collapsed, which is unacceptable, it’s a tremendous death. And I want it to become an zone of freedom.”
Almost 70 people were killed this night in Gaza, while a week of intense Israeli attacks continues.
Israeli offensive killed 57 people in Khan Younis, according to a Nasser Hospital morgue list.
Videos supplied by local journalists show children among the dead and bodies crowding the hospital morgue, with staff saying they are “crowded with bodies.”
