Trump attack: Analysis of shooter’s cellphone 70% complete, says agent

Investigators have completed about 70 percent of their analysis of the cellphone of the gunman who attempted to kill Donald Trump, according to a law enforcement official.

So far, they have found nothing that provides a clue as to why Thomas Matthew Crooks tried to assassinate the former president, the source said.

Investigators are also expected to search the shooter’s laptop in the hope that it will reveal clues.

Crooks’ parents, who have cooperated with police since the attempted murder, said he did not appear to have any friends and did not appear to have any political leanings, the officer said.

Who is Thomas Matthew Crooks?

Thomas Matthew Crooks lived in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bethel Park, about an hour’s drive south of the Trump rally where law enforcement officials say he shot the former president.

A CNN interviewed more than half a dozen of the young man’s former classmates and neighbors, who portrayed him as quiet and aloof. Classmates remembered him as a “misfit” in high school.

Additionally, a review of public records suggests he may have had divergent political leanings, registering to vote as a Republican but making a small donation to a Democratic-leaning group.
