Trump Attacked Secret Service When Told He Couldn’t Go to Capitol Hill, Says Former Aide

Cassidy Hutchinson, a former adviser to Mark Meadows, the former White House chief of staff, testified at a hearing that she was told that former US President Donald Trump was “irritated” when told by security that he would not be going to the Capitol in January 6, 2021, because the situation was not safe.

According to the affidavit, Hutchinson heard a second-hand account that Trump was so furious with his secret service for preventing him from going to Capitol Hill that he lunged in front of his presidential limousine and tried to turn the wheel.

Tony Ornato, then the White House deputy chief of staff, told Hutchinson that Robert Engel, who was the Secret Service agent on January 6, 2021, repeatedly stated to Trump on the way back to the White House after the speech at the Ellipse that it wasn’t safe to go to the Capitol.

According to Hutchinson, Ornato said Trump yelled, “I’m the fucking president. Take me to the Capitol now.”

Trump then “reached out toward the front of the vehicle to grab the steering wheel,” the former aide added. She added that, according to Ornato, Trump used his other hand to “attack” Engel.

Read Hutchinson’s description of the former president’s actions:

“Tony started telling me that when the president entered the “beast” [apelido da limusine presidencial], he was under the impression of Mr. Meadows that the move to the Capitol was still possible and likely to happen, but that Bobby had more information.”

“As the president got into the vehicle with Bobby, he thought they were going to the Capitol, and when Bobby told him they weren’t, that there were no resources for it, it wasn’t safe, and that they were going back to the west wing, the president had a very strong and very angry response to that. Tony described him as “angry”. The president said something like, ‘I’m the f***ing president, take me to the Capitol now.”

Engel and Ornato testified to the committee investigating the attack on the US Capitol behind closed doors, but their statements were not used in today’s hearing.
