The perpetrator of the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, Thomas Matthew Crooks, wrote on the popular gaming platform Steam: “July 13th will be my debut, watch this unfold.”
The information was confirmed to CNN by a source familiar with the matter.
The source did not provide further details about the timing of the post or whether there were other posts.
Investigators have been trying to understand more about what Crooks was doing in the days and hours leading up to his attempted assassination of the former president.
Crooks visited the Trump rally site twice, his cellphone contained images of Trump and President Joe Biden, and the alleged killer’s search history included dates for the Democratic National Convention as well as upcoming Trump events, three U.S. officials told CNN .
But investigators combing through Crooks’ physical and digital trail have yet to find the essential details that would explain why the 20-year-old climbed onto a rooftop in Butler, Pennsylvania, with an AR-style weapon: a motive.
Crooks also conducted research on major depressive disorder, administration officials told Congress during briefings Wednesday.
